About The Center

The Center for Security Science is situated on Florida Tech's main campus. Comprising of 3 full-time faculty, several external collaborators and numerous students, it is one of the largest research groups within Florida Tech.

Started in 1996 by Prof. James Whittaker, the center originally focused on testing research as the Center for Software Engineering Research (CSER). Over time it became clear that the trend of work we were undertaking was more "security" driven (testing for security related bugs) and that the technologies the group had developed could be applied in a security context.

Funded both by industry and government, the center holds grants ranging from small unrestricted gifts to support curriculum development, up to multi-million dollar government grants that run over a number of years.

Where we are

Situated in Melbourne, on the space coast of Florida, Florida Tech is served by two airports - Orlando International (MCO, about an hour's drive away) and Melbourne International (MLB - 5 minute drive but very few flights). There are numerous hotels in the area - the closest is the Marriott Courtyard but there are many others ranging from the ubiquitous Holiday Inn to the Hilton beach-side.

By road, follow the interstate 95 and take exit 71 (U.S. 192) and go east to Country Club Road (approximately five miles); turn south on Country Club Road, continue (approximately one-half mile) to the main campus or continue on US 192 one block east to Babcock Street, turn south on Babcock Street, continue (approximately one-half mile) to the main campus.
